Pilates is a very precise form of exercise that can be tailor made to suit anyone. To get the most out of your training it is important that I become familiar with your alignment, the way you move and any past injuries.
To gather this information I will ask you to fill out an enrolment form. I will also need to assess the way you move so that I can put you into a suitable class. This can be done; either in the comfort of your own home
on a 1:1 or 1:2 basis. Alternatively, you can attend a workshop. It is important to note that each of these first sessions will not be like a normal Pilates class. The aim is to introduce you to the fundamentals of the
Pilates method and will have a stop/start feel. Following the first session, if you chose to do the matwork classes (you will be placed in a class that suits you) the sessions usually work in blocks of 6 (1 hour a week for 6 weeks).
In the first block of this session you will be given a list of exercises that we will concentrate on for that block. In my experience I have found this to be helpful as you start to become more familiar with the exercises within
the block and are therefore able to feel your improvements more quickly. Repetition is also a good way of cementing good movement patterns in your body. As well as this, having a list of exercises is beneficial for you as you
can then take the list away and practise at home. There is no pressure placed on you to practise at home but even half an hour a day really will make a difference.
As you progress I will begin to use more equipment and incorporate
exercises that will further challenge your alignment, core stability, balance, coordination and stamina.
